It was fun to be in the studio on my own reminiscing about these two Live at the Hive sessions with Mehuman Jonson / Casey Hufnagel and the Singer / Songwriters from the Camden Public Library’s Songwriter Sessions.  Listen to the above podcast for clips from Live at the Hive.

If you know of someone who would like to be “Live at the Hive”, feel free to email me at makingmaine@gmail.com or go to www.WRFR.org for more information and to keep track of upcoming live performances at the station.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend and thank a Veteran when you have the chance!

Going to be a fun show tomorrow.  A little different than usual – no actual guest with me in studio.  Just some great clips from our Live at the Hive Sessions with Mehuman Jonson in April and the Singer Songwriters from the Camden Public Library’s Songwriter Sessions who were in studio with me a couple weeks ago.  What a pack of talent!  There will be lots of great music.  So, listen in.

Don’t miss the upcoming coffeehouse at the Camden Public Library – June 3rd (next Thursday), 7:00 pm.  It’s free and open to all ages.  You’ll get to hear all these great musicians live that night.  Go to www.LibraryCamden.org for all the details.  I’ll see you there.

Go to www.WRFR.org for details on upcoming Live at the Hive sessions or to find out how to perform live on the air yourself!

Do you know a woman in business in the Midcoast or anywhere in Maine, for that matter?  Of course you do.  There are tons of women leading, owning and managing businesses in our state.  And, chances are, they know about Maine Women’s Network – the non-profit that connects women from Kittery to Fort Kent.  We are fortunate to have the largest chapter right here in the Midcoast.  That success is in no small part due to the efforts of Kim Palermo and Jane Dagley.  MWN Midcoast is transitioning leadership between these two ladies.  They’ll be my guests on tomorrow’s show and you won’t want to miss it.

Music –

Kim’s the proud mom of an up-and-coming singer/songwriter, Sarah.  So, she’ll be bringing us some of Sarah’s terrific songs.

I’m so glad Dan could make it into the WRFR studio.  I really appreciate his message encouraging communication amongst all of the dedicated people out there in the Midcoast trying to build economic vitality.  As a business owner, I appreciate his dedication and his tireless work on behalf of the CRL Chamber and these communities we all love.  Thanks for coming in, Dan.

If you’re weren’t bobbing your head (as we were in the studio) as you listened to Dan’s music selection, I don’t  know how you restrained yourself.  From Punk to Soul, lots of good reasons to move on a Friday morning:

Spanish Bombs – The Clash

Pretty Vacant – Sex Pistols

Life on Mars – David Bowie

A Town Called Malice – The Jam

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Turrell

I Can’t Turn You Loose – Otis Redding

If I had to vote for the busiest guy in the Midcoast, one of the first names that would come to mind…Dan Bookham.  This guy is not only leading the Chamber through its many pursuits, he’s also involved in so many other things.  He’s a guy with a real pulse on Midcoast and Maine life and economics.  We’ll have the chance to find out a little bit more about him, the Chamber, and what inspires him to play such an important role in helping our local businesses thrive.  If it’s any clue into how he thinks, here’s the quote he includes in his email signature, “Communication leads to community.” (Rollo May)  Join us!

Dan’s Song Selection:  English Punk and Glam Rock with a little American Soul…

David Bowie: Life on Mars

I really enjoyed chatting with Sarah about Aldermere Farm and all the other interesting things she has going on in her life.  Sarah said she loves the variety of her work everday in interacting with the community and those who oversee stewardship of this historic resource.  Clearly, we all get to benefit from those efforts.  Thanks, Sarah!  Looking forward to spending time on the farm tomorrow!

If you don’t love Aldermere Farm, I can’t imagine why not.  It’s one of those Maine places that always sets a smile on my face.  Start with a beautiful gem of saltwater farmland, add in amazing ocean views,  community outreach, and those precious Belted Galloways – and the result is a true Maine treasure.  Sarah Post is Program Coordinator for the farm.  They have some wonderful programs coming up including their “Calf Unveiling” this Saturday from 10-3 at the farm.  Tune in to the show!

Sarah’s picked her tunes for the show.  Her favorite mix includes:

Coldplay Clocks and Speed of Sound

MuseResistance and Undisclosed Desires

The PoliceInvisible Sun and Don’t Stand So Close To Me
